Walker Kessler is settling into life as a Laker, and the newest big man in Los Angeles is bringing a hobby with him, along with a friendly debate he intends to win.
Kessler has his sights set on proving he's the best fisherman on the roster, a title he's willing to contest against new teammates Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves. First, though, he needs to find somewhere to fish now that he's swapped Utah for Southern California.
Still finding a spot in LA
"Me and my buddies went on a fly fishing tour in Provo River in Utah and I was out there for 3 hours — just got to find a spot out here in LA now. So I don't know if there's any fly fishing in LA."
The challenge
As for who actually deserves the crown, Kessler isn't handing it over without a proper contest. He's already mapped out how the three would settle it.
"The best fisherman out of all three of us [Walker, Luka, AR], that's tough. I would have to go on a fishing trip with both of them. We'd have to do a fly fishing, lake fishing, and deep sea fishing. Average out the weights of all those fish caught, and then we'll have to see. So maybe we'll do something with that."
It's a small window into the personality behind the Lakers' new frontcourt piece. And if nothing else, it's the setup for a team-bonding trip once the season tips off.
